• Schroeder, Chap. 1 (page 1 up to and including page 22):
• Temperature
• Ideal-gas law
• Equipartition Principle.
• 1. law of thermodynamics
• Problems (we will spend time starting on the problems in class, to be finished at home for next time): 1.18, 1.25, 1.26, 1.32, 1.34 (very good to spend time on)

### 2. Lesson (Tue. 13/9)

• Schroeder, Chap. 1, continued (up to and including section 1.6):
• Specific heat, isobar and isochoric
• Enthalpy
• Problems from last (to be presented by you): 1.34

• I will if time allows talk about Quantum mechanic. Please read Schroeder, Appendix A.1 - A.3 (including):
• If you have time, take a look at the web page http://phet.colorado.edu/new/simulations/ which has simulations of several physics topics. Click on the heading "Quantum phenomena" on the left to get the quantum ones. You should be able to understand something of what goes on in "Quantum bound states" and "Quantum tunnelling". Play around with the parameters and explore!

(Hint for prob 2.d: Use the formula for the partition function for an ideal gas, to write a formula for the entropy, and consider what is to be kept constant (the problem is rather technical)
